Fabolous - The Soul Tape 2 MIXTAPE REVIEW

FABOLOUS - THE SOUL TAPE 2

Fabolous drops his sequel to the Soul Tape, been a minute since we heard from him and he delivers a strong effort. Not shy on the features on this tape with appearances from J. Cole, Pusha T, Troy Ave, Trey Songz, Wale and Joe Buddens. Very rarely do you get a mixtape or album you can just hit play and enjoy. I am very picky myself and I have to admit I enjoyed listening to this mixtape from beginning to the end. Reminds me of a modern Blueprint album, laid back beats with good lyrics and subject matter. The content lives up to the title, with plenty of soul samples and the overall feel of the project. You may not hear these cuts at your local club while you’re getting down with your ratchet ass but it provides a soundtrack to either cruise to or enjoy your favorite herbal treat.

Fabolous’ version of diced pineapples is a must listen, recruiting Trey Songz and Cassie. Fab drops some gems about relationships with the opposite sex. In my honest opinion, much better take than the original. Also features Trey dropping some rhymes instead of the usual crooning on the tracks. On “Want You Back”, Fab tackles failed relationships and the karma over screwing over someone good. Joe Buddens and Teyana Taylor assist on the track. This makes for a good way to end the tape.

If you are a Fabolous fan then you’ll be satisfied, rather than jumping on whatever is relevant today with music trends he stays in his own lane and delivers a strong project. If you’re looking for something to fill your music void then download this tape and enjoy.

Stand out tracks include: For The Love, Diamonds, B.I.T.E., Louis Vuitton, Life Is So Exciting, Diced Pineapples and Want You Back.

My rating 4.5 out of 5

Until the next time, Stay Fresh!

Kid Ink - RocketshipShawty MIXTAPE REVIEW

Kid Ink – Rocketshipshawty

Rocketshipshawty

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, that’s the approach Kid Ink took for his latest offering Rocketshipshawty. Sticking to his usual delivery, beats and catchy hooks he offers fans another 16 tracks of new music. Kid Ink is coming off a great year, XXL freshmen class alumni and a very successful independent album released earlier this year “Up & Away”.

Subject matter ranges from the usual stuff smoking, flossing, partying and plenty warnings to other dudes asking them to “cuff their chicks”. The Mixtape goes in from the start with the track “O.G.” an ode to his favorite recreational substance. Keeps the momentum going with tracks like “Badass”, “What They Doin’”, “Holey Moley”, “Firestorm”, “Ghost”, “Loaded “and “Poppin’ Shit”.

One of the downfalls of the mixtape is the lack of creativity on hooks and simplistic lyrics. At times songs sound very similar and get repetitive. The redemption from this are the beats throughout the mixtape that keep the energy going. Aside from this, the mixtape delivers something to keep the fans happy until the next album is released.

My rating is 3.5 out of 5
