Rita Ora Meet & Greet in Portland, OR

As you know by now myself and the Way2hott crew love music and always looking out for new artists that are making big moves. Thanks to my radio contact we got a chance to check out a private performance from one of my favorite up and coming artists, Rita Ora. For all you out there, she is as talented and she is beautiful. One of the most appealing things is how humble and down to earth she was.

Don’t know who Rita Ora is? You must be living under a rock or should I say Roc (pun intended!). Rita is the 21 year old British artist signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. She is currently blazing the charts with “R.I.P” and “How We Do” in U.S. and U.K. She has been working on her debut album for the last two years, drawing influences from Gwen Stefani, Aaliyah, Beyonce, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Sade and David Bowie. As anyone knows, Jay-Z takes time to develop his artists. Such approach has lead to the success of other Roc Nation artists like J. Cole and Melanie Fiona.

While at the Wild 107.5/ Z100 private concert, Rita performed acoustic versions of “How We Do (Party & Bull Shit)” and “R.I.P.” She also announced that “R.I.P.” will be her second U.S. single which features U.K. artist Tinie Tempah, but stated the U.S. release will include a special surprise guest. One can wonder who that could be, perhaps Jay-Z or Drake? Anyways, she is definitely one to watch this year as she takes off into stardom.

Rita Ora’s debut album “Ora” is set to release late August.

Rita Ora, if you read this, I wish you much success on your journey.

Until next time everyone!

Cyhi The Prynce - Ivy League Club MIXTAPE REVIEW

Cyhi The Prynce - Ivy League Club

Someone not to sleep on is Cyhi The Prynce, singed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label; the Georgia MC has been hard on his grind. Not letting the haters get him down or distract him, he remains focused. What many don’t know is that many artists get signed by Kanye West and are developed for years before ever releasing a studio album. Label mate Big Sean was signed 5 years before he released an album, either way Cyhi is putting out noteworthy mixtapes and gearing up for this debut next year. In the meantime, here is his new mixtape “Ivy League”.

Staying true to the theme, tracks relate to the overall school theme. Songs like “Ivy league” and Honor Roll” provide a good start to the project. “A-Town” gives you that Saturday College game feel as he recruits Travis Porter and B.O.B for a town repping track. Cyhi does not let up, following up with a hard hitting track “Slick”. Proving he does not need the whole G.O.O.D Music camp on his tracks to stand on his one two.

Production is great on the mixtape and the beats don’t over shadow or over stretch Cyhi’s flow. All seem to blend nearly perfect with each other. On the Sade sampled track “Tool”, Cyhi provides a creative twist over the “Smooth Operator” sample. The mixtape takes a minute for a smoke break with Big K.R.I.T. and Yelawolf on “Drank & Smoke”. He keeps the same vibe through the mixtape before ramping it back up for more street records like “Can’t Stand Y’all” and party anthem “100 bottles” with Chris Brown & Big Sean.  Then wrapping it up with the posse cut “Entourage” shouting out his G.O.O.D. music crew.

Overall, Cyhi showcases his talent and why he deserves his spot in the house that Kanye built. For sure to hold people over until Cruel Summer arrives next month.

Rockie Fresh - Driving 88 MIXTAPE REVIEW

ROCKIE FRESH - DRIVING 88

If you haven’t heard yet, Rockie Fresh is on a quest to become your next favorite rapper. The 20 year old Chicago native is already one of the hottest independent artists in hip hop. His grassroots movement has everyone talking, he has recently taught the attention of music magazines Complex, XXL and WIRED.

His latest mixtape “Driving 88” showcases his talent and range. With similarity to Kid Cudi, Asap Rocky and cockiness like Kanye West, Rockie Fresh knows how to keep your attention. Right off the back he catches your ear with “Into the future” which is sure to be a crowd pleaser. For all you nerds that caught the Back to the Future sound bites throughout the track, feel free to geek out!

Rockie’s wide range of samples and variety of beats keeps you listening from beginning to the end. Tracks like “Turn It Up” is sure to get some radio and club play. Looking for a track to play while you are “enhancing” your mind? “Never, Never” “Driving 88” and “Come Around” are sure to provide a good soundtrack for you. “So Long” the mixtape’s closing track serves as a farewell track for all those who hated on his moves. The track is a nice way to wrap up a noteworthy project.

Overall, this is a very impressive project and I can see why Rick Ross was quick to sign him to Maybach Music Group. Big things are coming, be sure to check him out.

50 Cent - 5 (Murder By Numbers) MIXTAPE REVIEW

50 Cent - 5 (Murder By Numbers)

A few months ago, 50 Cent announced he would be releasing new album with or without his labels support in July. Once the date came, he fulfilled his word but took it a step forward. He announced that the 10 track album would be released to his fans for free and announced a retail album will be released this fall.

5 (Murder by Numbers) brings that forward that classic 50 Cent delivery, hard rhymes over street beats. Although his delivery works on some tracks and fails on others, coming off as a lazy attempt at a track. It’s no lie that the “hunger” we all heard in his voice when he first blew up is not there anymore but on tracks like “NY” and “United Nations” the delivery falls flat.

Business Mind with Hayes is an example of a track that works. The beat screams classic G-Unit Street record along with your typical 50 cent hook. Need a song for your smoke session? “Roll That Shit” with Kidd Kidd has you covered. This track will definitely be a favorite off the mixtape with the catchy hook and beat to go with it.

What’s a 50 Cent project without something for the ladies? “Definition Of Sexy” is just that, radio ready hook and following the typical blueprint he has followed over the years. If it ain’t broke then why fix it? If that is not enough for you ladies out there, 50 has you covered with “Be My Bitch” with Brevi. A Bonnie and Clyde type song about a Shorty holding it down for you. Probably the most talked about track finishes the mixtape, “Can I Talk To You” featuring Black Hippie rapper on the move SchoolBoy Q. The track does not disappoint, with no one over shadowed providing a nice way to end the mixtape.

Overall, the best way to describe the project as a whole is as follows: Begins with street records, takes a smoke break, talks about all his cash, shifts his attentions to the ladies and ends with a nice surprise. Although not flawless, it is one of his better work to date.

Tracks worth checking out: Roll That Shit, Turn The Lights On, Definition Of Sexy, Be My Bitch & Can I Speak To You.

Overall Score: 3.5 out of 5
