Cyhi The Prynce - Ivy League Club MIXTAPE REVIEW

Cyhi The Prynce - Ivy League Club

Someone not to sleep on is Cyhi The Prynce, singed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label; the Georgia MC has been hard on his grind. Not letting the haters get him down or distract him, he remains focused. What many don’t know is that many artists get signed by Kanye West and are developed for years before ever releasing a studio album. Label mate Big Sean was signed 5 years before he released an album, either way Cyhi is putting out noteworthy mixtapes and gearing up for this debut next year. In the meantime, here is his new mixtape “Ivy League”.

Staying true to the theme, tracks relate to the overall school theme. Songs like “Ivy league” and Honor Roll” provide a good start to the project. “A-Town” gives you that Saturday College game feel as he recruits Travis Porter and B.O.B for a town repping track. Cyhi does not let up, following up with a hard hitting track “Slick”. Proving he does not need the whole G.O.O.D Music camp on his tracks to stand on his one two.

Production is great on the mixtape and the beats don’t over shadow or over stretch Cyhi’s flow. All seem to blend nearly perfect with each other. On the Sade sampled track “Tool”, Cyhi provides a creative twist over the “Smooth Operator” sample. The mixtape takes a minute for a smoke break with Big K.R.I.T. and Yelawolf on “Drank & Smoke”. He keeps the same vibe through the mixtape before ramping it back up for more street records like “Can’t Stand Y’all” and party anthem “100 bottles” with Chris Brown & Big Sean.  Then wrapping it up with the posse cut “Entourage” shouting out his G.O.O.D. music crew.

Overall, Cyhi showcases his talent and why he deserves his spot in the house that Kanye built. For sure to hold people over until Cruel Summer arrives next month.

My rating 4 out of 5
